Detailed Review

The rating in figure 5 is a measure of what we get for the price - to - what we expect at this price.

1. Build quality (4.8/5)

I've seen many Mpow products and the build quality of this product is no exception. The plastic, rubber and silicone used are high quality. I couldn't find any loose joints or cracks or gaps between or on the enclosure. Everything is tightly packed (it has to). The headphones have a matte black finish which makes it easy to grab. The rubber/silicone hooks are well adhered to the body of the headphones, so you don't have to worry about accidentally tearing it apart. The cable is flat which makes it tangle free and is bi-colored (red and black) which gives some aesthetics to it. The volume buttons are made of plastic and is easy to reach. The right speaker enclosure has all the buttons, micro USB port, microphone, and electronics. There are multiple microphones to help with noise canceling which is nice. There's a small opening on the back for a bi-color LED (blue and red) which will continuously light blue at an interval of about 7 seconds when connected and will be red while charging. The red LED will turn off once charging is complete. The supplied USB cable is also of good quality. The fancy but well made carry case makes it easy to carry the headphones and its accessories.

2. Comfort (4.8/5)

Everyone has personal preferences when it comes to comfort. Some prefers on-ear to in-ear. Despite that, this headphones are comfortable to wear if you make sure to use the right sized silicone earbuds. The rubber hooks will simply wrap around your ears and ensure comfortable fit. The hooks won't leave any impressions on the skin even after prolonged use. The hooks prevent the headphones from falling off unintentionally. The package comes with 3 set of silicone buds and a single set of memory-foam bud if you're into that. You can wear these headphones comfortably even if you use spectacles (I do).

3. Sound Quality (3.9/5)

This headphones have excellent low frequency performance but somehow lacks the "punching" effect. Don't get me wrong, it still has good bass response. But what disappointed me was that the lower frequencies were literally engulfing all the higher frequency components. The guitars, violin and such string instruments are less felt compared to what they are in real. I had to adjust the pre-amplification for the higher components in my phone's music player (AIMP) to get the right and balanced overall frequency response. But once you done that, it performs really well, outputs a really good balanced sound. But this doesn't have to be the case for all. Some might prefer the emphasized bass response. Also this makes it annoying that you have to adjust equalizers in all your apps. Some apps, like SoundCloud doesn't even have equalizer which is a bummer. The volume is more than adequate.

4. Operation (5/5)

Press the large button on the right speaker (yes, the Mpow logo is a button), for 3 seconds to turn it on. Search under bluetooth for "Mpow Flame" and you can pair it. Once paired, the headphones will connect automatically and insanely fast when you turn on BT on your phone. A female voice message that says the device is on and off are played when you tun it on and off (also at the time of low battery). Single press of the power button can take or end calls. Double clicking the volume buttons will let you to skip tracks. The headphones can be charged using only 5V USB charger. The nominal charging time is about 1.5 hour. The 100 mAh battery inside gives a playback time of about 6-7 hours.

5. Call and Microphone Quality (4.9/5)

This actually depends on your phone also. If you have good quality carrier, then speaking through the headphones will feel same. The multiple microphones enable the headphones to pick up additional noise from the surrounding from different directions to cancel unwanted sound and other noise which makes it perfect for phone conversations.

6. Weather Sealing (5/5)

Probably the highlighted feature of these headphones is the IPX7 waterproofing. This means the headphones are completely resistant to liquid splashes or even complete immersion up to 1 metre for 30 minutes. Rain, sweat, swimming in the pool won't damage it, which is peace of mind when working out and while traveling.

7. Price and Warranty

It was Rs.2K when I bought this. But something between Rs.1.6K-1.8K would've been more reasonable I think. The headphones come with 18-months warranty. You can contact the seller/brand for any warranty claims.

So overall, this is a good pair of headphones if you prefer quality and especially the the IPX7 rating. What only disappointed me was the default unflat frequency response. But if that's acceptable for you or if you're a bass-savvy person (I found at website that many likes it that way), this one is right for you. Regarding the price, there are so many headphones available in this category. But most of them at this price range are not IPX7 rated.
